More than 550 employees at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have made over 8,000 contributions totaling more than $285,000 to Democratic causes since 2015. In that time, only five contributions have been made toward Republican causes, Federal Election Commission records indicate.
Out of those five contributions, which totaled slightly more than $1,000, three sent money to President Trump’s 2016 campaign.
The contributions came from nurses, technology personnel, epidemiologists, and the CDC’s chief financial officer.
Common recipients of CDC contributions:
- ActBlue – an online fundraising platform for Democratic and left-leaning organizations
- Bernie 2020
- Biden for President
- Hillary for America
- Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee
- Warren for President, Inc.
- Indivisible Action — a progressive organization which seeks to “elect progressive leaders, rebuild our democracy, and defeat the Trump agenda.”
Soon after W.H.O. declared coronavirus a global pandemic in early March, the amount of money contributed by CDC employees to left-leaning causes by the end of the month was three-times higher than the previous five-year average.
Additionally, the total number of contributions more than doubled compared to the previous five-year monthly average.
Between March 11 and 30, CDC employees gave roughly $8,000 through 158 contributions. Employees made an average of 69 contributions averaging $2,700 during the same time span from 2015-2019.
