This is what I try to explain to my children. Imagination and thinking are not the same thing. In fact, there is a huge difference between the two. To explain it in the simplest terms, thinking takes place in the brain while imagination takes place in the heart. Now, of course the heart doesn’t think but the emotions that form or drive the thoughts originate in the heart and not the head. And sadly, this is how the vast, vast majority of the world functions. Lead by their emotions they IMAGINE the way they want things to be, actually, in many cases, believing they are reality. Seeing things that aren’t there, hearing things that were not said, they construct a fantasy world and then are shocked when their imagined outcome does not come to pass. This goes a long way to explaining the misery people live and the almost daily disappointment they experience. It is also what is meant by Genesis 6:5 –
“Every imagination of the thoughts of a man’s heart are evil all the time.”
