Prevatio Boni

By on Jan 12, 2017

The absence of good (Latin: privatio boni) is a theological doctrine that evil, unlike good, is insubstantial, so that thinking of it as an entity is misleading. Instead, evil is rather the absence or lack (“privation”) of good.It is typically attributed to Augustine, who wrote: And in the universe, even that which is called evil, when it is regulated and put in its own place, only enhances our admiration of the good; for we enjoy and value the good more when we compare it with the evil. For the Almighty God, who, as even the heathen acknowledge, has supreme power over all things, being Himself supremely good, would never permit the existence of anything evil among His works, if He were not so omnipotent and good that He can bring good even out of evil. For what is that which we call evil but the absence of good? In the bodies of animals, disease and wounds mean nothing but...

It must be nearly impossible to stop being a useful idiot.

The title of this post describes what we see in this transcript. An exchange between a liberal useful idiot interviewer and an egopper so entrenched, so practiced, so blinded by the Beltway culture he is not even aware he is a tool of the left. The proof is indisputable. Mike Wallace plays gothca with the typical liberal ploy of conflating two unrelated issues into one, “Do you still beat your wife”, question and the Priebus who is so used to playing the game fumbles around trying to not answer the non-question rather than focusing the exchange on what the topic should be – THE TRUTH. The issue is not by whom or by what means the information was acquired. Sure, hacking may be an issue of national security but this is hardly what the problem is here as is so clearly demonstrated by the simple fact that if it was Republican email that had been released the msm would not...

“When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.”

And now for some really encouraging news. It seems that according to the FBI some 27 million guns were purchased last year. Some would say ‘in spite of’ but I would say ‘because of’ the efforts of the past administration and the promise to increase those efforts if his party’s queen won the election to impose gun control on the country as they did health control the deplorables made a mockery of those efforts just as they made a mockery of the entire last 8 years on Nov. 4.  The irony could not be greater or sweeter. From the Examiner: “Driven by terror threats and a potential Hillary Clinton administration, sales of guns in America soared to record levels in 2016, according to the FBI. Just released FBI background check numbers, which roughly equate gun sales, totaled some 27,538,673, 4 million more than in 2015 and nearly double the number in...

If an 8 year old girl

and her family say she is a boy is she a boy because they and she believe she is a boy? If she is not why must everyone say she is and act as though she is? How can you believe something that is demonstrably not true and then insist everyone else confirm a belief that should be called dementia? Perhaps, most importantly, how can the confirmation of the dementia become societal law? Lastly, can you honestly tell me the article is not written in the most blind manner? It is almost forced, as if the author does not believe what they are writing. Avoiding the underlying issue at all costs.

the red and blue county map of the election but here is something a bit different. Do we really want to be governed by people who CHOOSE to live on top of one another? People who CHOOSE to drive themselves crazy 5 days a week with incredible traffic both going and coming from work? People who CHOOSE to add one, two, three hours to their workday with a train, bus or car ride? Is it any wonder these folks are raising Snowflakes? The guilt of not seeing your kids, not spending time with your children, NOT RAISING your offspring has to be overwhelming. Are the self-loathing justifiers of, let the government raise my kids, people who are so willing to relinquish the privilege of raising what they all would proclaim is their most prized possession, are those really the people we want choosing who will govern us? Look at the people they elect to govern them in their state and then look at the...

Jonathan Haidt Can Explain The Liberal Hobby Lobby Freakout A reader who posts under the name Salamander left this comment on the thread about the Left, epistemic closure, and the culture war, in which I made the point that so many on the cultural left are so confident in their own judgments, even though they don’t know what they don’t know. Salamander writes: Rod, this is so true. I have long joked that my liberal friends love diversity, as long as the diverse persons in question behave exactly like the right sort of upper middle class white people. I’ve also noticed my nice liberal friends assume that everyone thinks exactly like them. For example, my nice liberal upper middle class female friends know that the only reason they would possibly have gotten pregnant as a teenager would be that they were completely ignorant of how babies are made, or that they were ignorant of...
